Heart Warming Story from Lima Peru -- A Friend's Simple Efforts to Help Children
My wife has worked at Boeing Helicopter for many years. A long-time co-worker recently retired and went down to Lima Peru, to live for an extended period.
Over the years, he has been very generous to children and so it was not surprising to receive the information in his latest email. Since the tragic events in Norway are so fresh in our minds, I wanted to share this with all of you. It is good to know that there are still people trying to make a positive difference in the world -- through acts of kindness, both large and small.

"It is about 65 degrees outside. They have a festival every other day and this week includes Independence Day -- so more fireworks.
Lima, Peru
I was walking back from the market yesterday and there was a small boy. He was trying to lace his shoe, but the shoe laces were ragged and the bottom of the shoe was falling off. There was a shoe store nearby that appeared to have children's shoes. I tried to get him to come to the store with me, but he refused. I was about to give up, when a lady nearby provided some assistance.
She picked him up out of the gutter and placed him on a stool inside the shoe store. The owner of the shop put the new shoes on his feet. He was concerned at first, because he thought he was losing the old shoes (but they bagged those for him to take with him). The shoes only cost about $10 U.S.
As I was paying for them, his Mother arrived. It turns out she was selling vegetables on the sidewalk, nearby. She gave me a big hug. It made my day. I have also been able to give new clothes to some other children, ranging in age from 8 months to 4 years old."
